If you have a child with asthma, you have come to the right place. One of the leaders in the state for asthma care, Hurley Medical Center has the only home-based asthma disease management program in the region. This means you are now part of a team: you, your child, your family, a Hurley Asthma Disease Case Manager, your child’s doctor and nurse, even teachers and coaches. All of us will work together to keep your child healthy and active and in school.

You might hear about the MATCH program: Managing Asthma Through Case management in the Home. This means that an Asthma Disease Case Manager will actually visit your house. She will work with you and your child to take away things that can trigger asthma. She will make sure your child is taking the right asthma medicine. She will meet with your child’s doctor and teacher and coach. She will go over your child’s Asthma Action Plan with them so they understand your child’s asthma and know what to do if there is a problem.

At Hurley, we feel it is important to teach people about asthma. That is why we go out into the community and talk to people at all kinds of places. We go to health fairs, schools, churches and synagogues, doctors’ offices, and community centers. If you would like one of our Asthma Disease Case Managers to come to an event, use the contact information above.

The Genesee County Asthma Network, directed by Jan Roberts, RN, is a team of many different people who want to reduce asthma in this community. Teachers, parents, pharmacists, doctors, and school nurses are all part of this network. Because it’s a team working together, it can get things that people with asthma need, such as beds, a new bathroom — even a new house. For more information about the Genesee County Asthma Network, use the information above to contact one of the Hurley Asthma Disease Managers.
